ok. here's whasup..
by roberta donnay
Nov 23, 2006
When I'm on the road I mostly write in between finding small coffee houses, hanging around the hotel room, and sometimes in a jazz club while the band is playing instrumentals. (I wrote the lyrics to "Harold's Rogue & Jar" this way).

The following are some of my favorite exerpts from these writings. some of them will into songs in the near future.. You may notice some lyrics from these on some CD but rewritten..

The first two listed here I just co-wrote with beautiful recording artist and singer/songwriter Mira Veda who is working on her new CD - right now! So hopefully both these will show up there.

I also write from people's conversations and get ideas from everything
from a painting to a poem, friends and problems other than my own (we're all so bored by our own problems, aren't we? ok. maybe not.) "Suffer what there is to suffer. enjoy what there is to enjoy. and keep chanting nam-myoho-renge-kyo no matter what happens". - N.D.

The above is a quote from Nichiren Daishonin, a 13th century Buddhist monk who based his teachings on the Lotus Sutra, teaching of Shakyamuni
(Siddhartha) Buddha.

Please enjoy!

THE NITE WE LOST THE GIG @ ALBERTO'S
by roberta donnay
Oct 11, 2004
jukebox brain, drunken veins
the nite we lost the gig @ alberto's
dollar tips, red hot lips
the nite we lost the gig @ alberto's
he was a jive cat stuck on image
we rolled into town
till the cadillac broke down
everyone was shootin' cribbage
we played jazz under a crescent moon
they called out somethin'
sounded like a disco tune
so i made a mistake
told him his taste
was all in his mouth
so we got fired
now i'm tired questioning everything
now it's half past 3
time to get into it
find the truest sense of it
without alchohol stares
gold studded suede sivel chairs
beefeaters & poofed up hair
piano bars, the brooklyn bridge,
the guy from Mars
and i'm headed out west again
the nite we lost the gig @ alberto's

ALMOST ARIZONA
Jun 17, 2004

were you just too bored
with the pinball bowling alley scene
bordertown mentality
pissed off for the money i sent
c/o Prescott/Williams
general delivery

almost arizona you come running back
to the family
burning every bridge so incestuously
and now you want a piece of me
almost arizona my life’s not for sale
like your 401k
like you're cashing in on the people you prey
you can’t cash me in - you don't own me

why don't you tell these lies
to someone who really cares
instead relying on the kindness of strangers
make a little list, keep ‘em in a journal
trade it for some lithium and
fine medication

almost arizona now you're running back
to a family
after burning bridges incestuously
you come running after me
almost arizona you just tumble
like a weed
like a real bad u-turn scene
like the stalker that you are
CALL ME THE BREEZE
Jun 17, 2004

I woke up & found you were gone
Lonely nights & darkest dawn
My heart has flown yet my body still breathes
There's nothing left
So call me the breeze

Time tells the truth
When love tells a lie
Promises are sweet but love makes you blind
I was a fool to think you were mine
Oooh.. call me the breeze

CALL ME THE BREEZE
Caught by the wind
I still believe
This love we are in
Wherever you are
So is my heart..
So CALL ME THE BREEZE
CALL ME THE BREEZE, CALL ME THE BREEZE
until you come back to me..

Fortunes may come, fortunes may go
Love stays until ~ you never know
I'll always dream you're still with me
Oooh.. so call me the breeze

CALL ME THE BREEZE
Caught by the wind
I still believe
This love we are in
Wherever you are
So is my heart..
So CALL ME THE BREEZE, CALL ME THE BREEZE,
CALL ME THE BREEZE...until you come back to me..

WALKING WITH THE ELEPHANTS (bridge only)
Jun 16, 2004

i had a dream i was in India
drivin' in a gold rolls royce
right down the center of town
and everyone was walkin' with the elephants
