STOP THIS TRAIN!

STOP THIS TRAIN I'M GETTIN' OUT
I CAN'T FIGURE WHAT THIS LIFE'S ABOUT
YOU KNOW IT'S NOTHIN' TOO PERSONAL
JUST THE WHOLE SPINNIN' WORLD
SO STOP THIS TRAIN CAUSE I'M ONE CONFUSED GIRL

STOP YOUR WHININ' YOUR CRANKY TONE
NO ONE'S FORCIN' YOU TO BE ALONE
YOU KNOW YOU INSPIRE NO FORCES
TO RALLY ALL THEIR TROOPS
SO STOP YOUR CRYIN' BEFORE WE HAVE TO CUT YOU LOOSE

I JUST HAVE HAD IT UP TO HERE
WITH ALL THEIR LIES & ALL THEIR CRIMES
I JUST HAVE TO BEND YOUR EAR
BEFORE THEY MAKE ME LOSE MY MIND SO..

STOP THIS TRAIN, NO END IN SIGHT
WHEN ARE WE GONNA FIX AND MAKE IT RIGHT
YOU KNOW IT'S NOTHIN' TOO PERSONAL
JUST THE WHOLE SPINNIN' WORLD
SO STOP THIS TRAIN CAUSE I'M ONE CONFUSED GIRL

I'M NOT A CHILD SO DON'T YOU LIE TO ME
I'M GONNA SEE THRU' ALL YOUR DIRTY DIRTY DEEDS
WHEN I GET THRU WITH YOU YOU'LL WISH YOU WERE DEAD
RUN OR CRAWL FOR COVER PUT SOME SAND ON YOUR HEAD, SO

STOP THIS TRAIN I'M GETTIN' OUT
I CAN'T HANDLE WHAT THIS TRIP'S ABOUT
YOU KNOW I BOUGHT MY TICKET - DESTINATION: HAPPINESS
SO STOP THIS TRAIN CAUSE THIS WORLD
STOP THIS TRAIN CAUSE THIS WORLD
STOP THIS TRAIN CAUSE THIS WORLD

Info
Roberta Donnay is an exception. She covers such songs as Johnny Mercer's "Drinkin' Again," and Bob Dorough and Fran Landesman's "Small Day Tomorrow" in the same way that she covers her face in the photo on the cover of her album: with a wide brim. Her engagement with the lyrics, her supple sense of time and her soulful, little-girl timbre remind you of Billie Holiday. She is elegantly accompanied by the pianist Eric Reed and a discreet rhythm section.

- Mike Zwerin, Herald Tribune Intl.
***********************************************************************

- Roberta Donnay is a major new find. The fact that Orrin Keepnews produced her record is a tipoff, plus that her backup trio includes pianist Eric Reed with four guest appearances from tenor saxophonist Dave Ellis. Roberta has a very appealing voice somewhat reminiscent tone-wise of Norah Jones. However, she is much more of a jazz
singer than Jones, swinging, using subtle improvising, making sometunes quite bluesy and displaying versatility. What's Your Story is a very impressive effort, highly recommended.
It makes one happy that Roberta Donnay has decided to pursue a jazz career.

TIME GOES TICKING BY
STILL YOU WONDER WHY
YOU KEEP STRIVING KEEP ON REACHING
FOR YOUR HIDDEN DREAM

YOU CAN SPREAD YOUR LITE

2. i don't want the nite to end Play
i don't want the nite to end
there's a rain outside my window
and man, it's comin' down
there's a secret locked inside your heart
forever lost & found
and i'm standing on the ledge now
if i could jump into your arms
would you catch me would you catch me

and isn't it a little like love to keep us guessing
isn't it a little like a crush to keep us breathing

i don't want the nite to end
let me turn your winter into spring
and i don't want the nite to end
let me give you something to believe..

and the world is crash & burn now
you can hear the fallout sound
if you wrap your dreams around my heart
and wear it like a crown
if i drink the twilight potion to keep you by my side
would you let me would you let me

and isn't it a little like love to keep us guessing
isn't it a little like a crush to keep us breathing

i don't want the nite to end
let me turn your winter into spring
and i don't want the nite to end
let me give you something to believe..

let me take you to a place where the sun will never shine
let me take you down the ladder where our kisses taste like wine
we'll be crying for release while the rivers rage below
if you want me you can have me

and isn't it a little like love to keep us guessing
isn't it a little like a crush to keep us breathing

i don't want the nite to end
let me turn your winter into spring
and i don't want the nite to end
let me give you something to believe..

3. queen of pain Play
queen of pain
the crow sits perched on her ivory tower home
she plays the part so perfectly, no tarnish on her chrome
it's the last resort from a life that’s built on pain
she designed the fort, now it becomes your grave
& the crow cries out, beware, beware

she's the Queen Of Pain
see how she runs from you
she's the Queen Of Pain
oh if you only knew
she's the Queen Of Pain
as you're callin’ out her name
she's the Queen Of Pain, the Queen Of Pain

while you gave your savings to the church
she was bankin' on sex files & shortening her skirts
while you were playing games with your cookies & your milk
she was datin’ millionaires & lifting mink & silk
& the past cries out, beware, beware

she's the Queen Of Pain
see how she runs from you
she's the Queen Of Pain
& you can’t get a clue
she's the Queen Of Pain
as you're callin’ out her name
she's the Queen Of Pain, the Queen Of Pain

all that's left of your heart (is a little speck)
in a ruthless universe (a tiny seed)
see how your enemies become her friends

lies, lies, lies, wipe the tears from years gone by
she can't remember who, she can't remember why
frozen petals from the wedding she tosses to the wind
she burned your hand once, she'll burn it again
& your friends cry out, beware, beware

she's the Queen Of Pain
see how she runs from you
she's the Queen Of Pain
& she'll tell you what to do
she's the Queen Of Pain
as you're callin’ out her name
she's the Queen Of Pain, the Queen Of Pain

this is a dark story about a woman who is deadly to be around ..
it's a warning to men & to the man she's with now; it's based on 3 women I've known all wrapped up into one..
kind of steely-dan-ish w/muted trumpet & electronic sound effects flying around..

4. the edge Play
the edge
you're the soul survivor
of my teeny little ship
and i would drink you down, babe
but you know i'm tryin' to quit
and if you come to Paris i would
marry you, you see
and we would sail away from there
one happy family, oh, no..

if you give me comfort
i will search to find a tent
if you wrap me in silk blankets
i will look for a lament
you keep me on your pedastal
then i will surely fall
i'm perfectly imperfect
and i'm here to serve you all, oh no..

'cause i've been walkin on broken glass
i don't know how this ferry's gonna last
i'm just floatin' on down your shore
'till i reach the edge
'till i reach the edge
'till i reach the edge..

you're the soul survivor
of my teeny little ship
and i would drink you down babe
but i fear to take a sip
you know alligators can turn into
crocodiles and if you add some wings
then you will see that dragon fly, oh no..

you're my soul survivor
you're the only one for me
come & sail me down, babe
beneath your big blue sea
and we will go to Paris & dress all up in furs
and we will jam beneath the moon
i'll wear my hair in curls..

'cause i've been walkin on broken glass
i don't know how this ferry's gonna last
i'm just floatin' on down your shore
'till i reach the edge
'till i reach the edge
'till i reach the edge..

5. soul to soul Play
soul to soul
like a heartbeat in the rain
you whisper my name & tell me "i'm so into you"
like a secret to my soul you already know
the secret, my heart beats for you
each time i see you, you give your love so sweetly, completely
you tell me it's all right
and all that our love can be, tenderly

our love is soul to soul
let's stay together, together forever
i love you soul to soul
i want to stay with you now
soul to soul

why do i feel this way when you look at me that way
you know good things take time
your touch is all i need i would give everything
even put my heart on the line
if i stumble & fall down you kiss my tears away, always
you say that it's all right, in my arms you will stay
night & day

our love is soul to soul
let's stay together, together forever
i love you soul to soul
i want to stay with you now

primal whispers
forget the wind beneath the rain
forget the reasons love remains
when all is washed away there's only
primal whispers

and in the dark end of the light
when forces pull for wrong or right
the only sound reaching the skies is
primal whispers

hearts that beat with life
hearts that beat with love
you receive happiness from the stars above
love from stars above
the only truth is love
hearts beating in the night
primal whispers..

primal whispers shining thru' everything you say and do
so walk lightly thru' the trees and sing your own song tenderly..

harold's rogue & jar
"JAZZ IS MY RELIGION",
HE SAID TO ME UNDER THE NEON SIGN, JACKSON SQUARE STREET
AND WHAT WERE WE TALKING ABOUT WHEN TOMMY'S PIANO MADE ME CRY
BROUGHT ME RIGHT BACK WHERE I STARTED, BACK BEFORE "THE WHY"

WHEN I WOULD STAND OUTSIDE 16TH & N
STAND OUTSIDE FREEZING, SNOW AND RAIN ON MY HEAD
STAND WITH ALL MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS 'TILL THEY ALL WENT IN

JUST TO HEAR THE FUSION, SAX, THE BASS GUITAR
JUST TO HEAR WHAT WAS GOIN' DOWN
AT HAROLD'S ROGUE & JAR

OK SO I WAS A KID SO THEY COULDN'T LET ME IN
NOT THE RIGHT SEX, THE WRONG COLOR SKIN TO BE STANDING OUTSIDE
NOT EVEN HIGH HIGH HEELS, NO RED RED LIPS
JUST A TEENAGER SNAPPING FINGERS 'TILL THEY FINALLY LET ME IN
GUY SAID "SIT IN THE BACK DON'T LET THEM SEE YOU"
AND I WOULD DO ANYTHING TO BE THERE AGAIN

JUST TO HEAR THE FUSION
THE SAX, THE DRUMS, THE BASS GUITAR
JUST TO HEAR WHAT WAS GOIN' DOWN
AT HAROLD'S ROGUE & JAR

I PLAY THE JUKEBOX
BILLIE, ELLA, BIRD, DUKE, MILES,
COLTRANE, THEY WERE ALL THERE
FOR A QUARTER JUST A QUARTER
ECSTASY TO SPARE

THE CLUB IS GONE NOW, YEARS GONE BY
I MOVED OUT WEST AND JOHNNY & FRED & RITCHIE
AND I DON'T KNOW WHO IS LEFT
NOT THAT THEY'D REMEMBER ME
THE LITTLE GIRL WITH THE BIG EYES
AND THEY WOULD JAM YES THEY WOULD JAM
TILL 4 AM AND I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR ONE MORE
DAY & ONE MORE NITE
AND ONE MORE DAY & ONE MORE NITE

JUST TO HEAR THE FUSION
THE SAX, THE BASS GUITAR
JUST TO HEAR WHAT WAS GOIN' DOWN
AT HAROLD'S ROGUE & JAR

Notes
this is a spoken word/acid jazz track
that has lots of amazing BE-BOP alto sax & gorgeous
piano ! this is a story about me; when I was a teenager I hung out at an after-hours jazz club in DC called Harold's Rogue & Jar. it was here that I first started to learn about jazz & jazz musicians. what an education i got there! like music heaven! the title of the CD "back before the why" comes from this lyric. and the story starts in present day w/a quote from Orrin Keepnews ~ when he first met me he took me to Yoshi's to hear Tommy Flanagan ~ he said "JAZZ IS MY RELIGION" that night which gave me my first line and the rest is history...

another train goes by
rockin' and a rollin'
neath the new york sky
buildings they just tremble
my heart is rumblin' too
cause this train ain't big enough to hold
the love i have for you

someday we'll be in the same town
someday maybe love will come around
someday we'll be in the same town
someday

and i fidget with my suitcase
and i fidget with my hair
and i know there's somethin' special
i'm supposed to do out there
but then every 20 minutes
i see your face again and i'm tryin' to let go now
and i'm tryin' to forget

someday we'll be in the same town
someday maybe love will come around
someday we'll be in the same town
someday

ooh but it’s a sin the way i love you
ooh it’s a sin that i can’t hold you
ooh but i can’t wait another minute
for you to see me thru..

jesus & the buddha
will smile right down on me
moses, mary & the saints
take good care of me
i’m not gonna question
i’m not gonna lie
i’m goin’ to confession
to keep my love alive

'cause someday we'll be in the same town
someday maybe love will come around

everything that I believed is only shadows now
when i hold them up to you
my illusions shattered on the ground
oh, oh..

love's sacred comes and goes
without a sound
you chase it, hold on, it fades away

i don't want to be the one to wake up at the end
to find i've been missing all along
teach me how to love 'cause I have never been
i'm in the dark searching for the sun
oh, oh...

if i light a candle each and every night
take away the darkness in my mind
only your love can make me shine
oh, oh...

walkin' with the elephants
i'm the whipped cream on your mocha
the smile upon your face
i'm everything and everyone you ever wanted
in this place
i'm the flicker of the christmas tree lights
the wag of your dog's tail
start any car with the blink of an eye
i'm the wind that always prevails

so while i'm out of town baby
please don't forget me
you'll see my red tresses as you pass by
someone in London maybe

i had a dream i was in India
drivin' in a gold rolls royce
right down the center of town
and everyone was walkin' with the elephants
it was a good dream
it was a good dream, a good dream

i'm the smile on the mona lisa
and a slice of apple pie
spray on the fountain near the Place De Concorde
i'm the prayer that reaches the sky

the laces of your hiking boots
the broken string on your guitar
the songs you love but can't remember names of
i'm your telescope to the stars

and as time goes by you'll see
oh how you'll see
that you're everything to me

Promises are sweet but love makes you blind
I was a fool to think you were mine
Call me the breeze

CALL ME THE BREEZE

I still believe
This love we are in
Wherever you are
So is my heart..
So CALL ME THE BREEZE
CALL ME THE BREEZE, CALL ME THE BREEZE

Fortunes may come, fortunes may go
Love stays until ~ you never know
I'll always dream you're still with me
Oooh.. so call me the breeze

sharing the rhythms cool as the moon
i found an ocean in you

wrap your arms 'round me i feel the waves
bathe me in salty kiss from your tongue
it's just begun the tide's rollin in
our love's beginning again

seagulls on glide flying so high
hearts burning brightly shining inside

1. Crack In The Sidewak
Crack In The Sidewak
i am the raging sea
divine savage
full of fury
you don't want to know me
you better get out
while the gettin's good
you took everything that i believed in
truth, honor - heart of a flower
tortured it mangled it broken broken broken dreams
of a family... you dismissed it

chorus:
i am a flower in the garden next door
the shit beneath your shoe
a butterfly in a field of forget-me-nots
i am the crack in the sidewalk, in the sidewalk

the last girl on the soccer team
the nerdy kid in the back of the class
head stuck in a book
writing writing always writing or drawing something cool
i am the duchess on the wall
someone you can't, you can't recall
i am the laughter down the hall
and as i place you on the throne i watch you fall

i am a flower in the garden next door
the shit beneath your shoe
a butterfly in a field of forget-me-nots
i am the crack in the sidewalk, in the sidewalk

bridge:
even i can't save you
someday in a future life you'll
look into my eyes and wish you'd
chosen differently
for i will be a saint and you will be the dirt beneath my feet

2. Fly Me In From Nowhere
Fly Me In From Nowhere
rock my world, yeah go ahead, change my life, make my bed
take these arms, i've lost control, catch me now before i fall
your kisses are like fantasies, like pictures on the silver screen
i hate this part, you know i do, cause i can't stay away from you

so lie to me, tell me you don't care.. i'll sabotage this great affair

* chorus:
fly me in from nowhere
leave my worries on the moon
you take away my heart too soon
i've been thinkin' somewhere
there could be a place for me
and this love could truly be (truly be)

so don't make promises you can't keep, lies fall like coins in a coke machine
cause i can't take it anymore, incessant falling on the floor (on the floor)
i see the worst before it begins, self preservation settin' in, put a man on the moon yet you can't explain why love can hurt even when it's good

so lie to me tell me you don’t care.. i’ll sabotage this great affair

* fly me in from nowhere...

bridge:
file it under b for boy.. file it under my mistake
it’s alien to me this love thing... my inner life’s in outer space

fly me in from nowhere, fly me in from nowhere
fly me in from nowhere (i’m inner turbulent, i’m upside down
i’m intergalactically impaired) fly me in from nowhere
(I thought this love was the curious kind.. manufactured in my mind)
fly me in from nowhere ... fly me in from nowhere (then you held me in
your bed i’m dreamin’ again, i’m dreamin’ again..)

3. Graffiti
Graffiti
graffiti is written on the walls
of my elementary school
a santa cruz cafe, a new york subway
even jim morrison's tomb
and it's spoken out loud when i'm shoppin'
today i was at mollie stone's
this guy walked right by me, said "pretty redhead"
then expect me to follow him home...

someday i'd like to teach those guys manners
to write a poem to a girl instead
something like "winter is fallin' and
springtime is hummin' and i'd sure like to be in your bed"
and i wonder how the old man is feeling
as he sits on his bench by the sea
remembers when he was just a boy
carving hearts into a tree...

graffiti is written on highway signs
from hartford to hollywood
they keep tryin' to cover it
throwin' white paint all over it
i'd paint it too if i could
i'd say "world, crazy world, how i love you
and all that you've given to me
the heartache, the breaks,
the shivers, the shakes
you fill me with ecstasy...”

Canada
somewhere between tommy tang's & johnny rocket's
i fell into a dream
you stepped out on the porch
the sun was scorchin' down on me...
it was not antiques & art, baby
it was not fashion based
i was doin' charles bukowski poetry
you were reading lady sings the blues
and i can still hear your voice inside my head

canada, canada
i don't know you very well, not yet
but i would surely circle the globe
just to know what's inside your head
you're inside mine, canada

if you were a research project, baby, and i had my ph.d.
we'd uncover vast historic crimes against your heart
dig right through archaeology
if i were your research project, baby
and you were a merchant marine
you could swim to my little island no one's ever seen

Jody
tears fell at 3 am
just another fight, he was drunk again
her lip was bleeding but he didn't ask
she went to the kitchen, poured herself a glass
he said "babe it's the last time" but she smelled a lie
after two and a half years of gin and denial
what she ever saw in him she was wonderin' too
she lived in his fantasy - it was almost through

jody walked out in the night and out of his life
she just had enough of this personal strife
jody walked out in the night and out of his life
she just had enough of this personal strife

and she took down the pictures from all of the walls
and she stood there a second, said goodbye to the halls
then she wrote him a note stuck to the back of the phone
"don't come lookin' for me cause i'm never comin' home, never comin' home"

she packed up her clothes, stuffed her bag in the car
drove to the next town, lit a cigar..all she had was a dollar to her name
she said it's gotta get better, it's gotta get better, 'till it gets worse again

jody walked out in the night & out of his life
she just had enough of this personal strife
jody walked out in the night and out of this lie
she just had enough of this personal strife
jody walked out in the night and out of his life
she just had enough of this personal strife
jody walked out in the night and out of this lie
she just had enough of this personal strife, personal strife....
love can be ...all those pretty promises invadin' her night
love can be...all those pretty promises invadin' her night, baby

This Train
i feel the steel underneath my feet
this train is building to a fast moving pace
just like me when my heart races to you
in the dark down these tracks
i try to run i try to jump but somethin' pulls me back
just like this train
and when i die and when i'm dead
my ashes scattered, the eulogy will say
"cowardly heart" or "heart with no name"
homeless heart come shelter me meet me
at the station pack me up and run away
just like this train

this train is gonna take me away
this train ain't gonna stand in my way
this train is gonna rescue me
this train is gonna set me free

next destination could be someone else's name
so if i leave you now i'll never be the same
not if i leave you
i bought a ticket on this train
i didn't know love could bring me so much pain
too many faces, none with your sweet eyes

and when i die and when i'm dead
my ashes scattered, the eulogy will say
"cowardly heart" or "heart with no name"
homeless heart come shelter me
meet me at the station pack me up and run away
just like this train this train is gonna take me away

7. I Will Not Be Blind
I Will Not Be Blind
put me in a paper cup, float me on the river
take my dreams and hold them up
hold them in my heart forever
where is the justice, where is my mother
who are the prophets now, the saints and sages
i am on Sado Island lost beyond the sea
i have only pen and paper to fight this heresy
the children suffer, it makes no sense
my land is crippled with violence

i will not be blind
to this faded empire
i will not be blind
to this rancid this rancid time
i will not be taken in
taken out
taken lightly
i will not be blind.

centuries ago before we had forgotten
all the trees stood tall and feared not for their lives
we were peaceful then, taking only when needed
we ate when we were hungry only to sustain us
centuries ago i had not forsaken
trusting for another like my ancestors
just like the farmers taken from their homes
in the name of jesus we crucified them all

i will not be blind
to this faded empire
i will not be blind
to this rancid rancid time
i will not be taken in
taken out
taken lightly
I will not be blind, oh

ignorance is not bliss
ignorance is killing us, killing us

Ain't Got You
i got some paper, i got some pencils
i got some love right here in my own heart
i got some broken strings, caloused fingers
it all means nothing 'cause i ain't got you, oh no
i got some coasters, i got some cd's
i got some money, no, not a whole hell of a lot
i got some hip clothes, two eyes and a nose
and i'm grateful for everything i got

i am a bird with just one wing
a little sparrow who wants to sing
i'll sing for you but everything comes out blue
cause i ain't got you cause i ain¹t got you, no, i ain't got you

i got some big gigs, my friend's on mtv
platinum seating, red carpet night at the grammies
(i got my dad in for free)
i made a record, i heard it might go gold
did you hear it on college radio (it's really really good, you know)

why does the sun shine, why does the moon glow
why do the stars come out at night
where do the clouds go, tell me, how do they know
whenever you come into sight, whenever you come into sight

i am a bird with just one wing
a little sparrow who wants to sing
i'll sing for you but everything comes out blue
cause i ain't got you cause i ain't got you, no, i ain't got you

1. One World Play
One World
it's a rainbow of color
in a sky full of thunder
when we open our eyes
do we see what we want to see

there is only one planet
that circles the sun
that we all call our home
and in only one moment
if we all decide
we can change our destiny

one world, one dream, one universe
one dream of peace, of unity
one hope, one love, one family
one wish for all humanity

we can lift every border
if we stand up together
with compassionate hearts
we can strive for equality

nothing is crueler than war
we've learned from the past
we want war no more

like waves crashing to shore
our hearts never stop
yearning for the dawn of peace
heart, spirit, and mind
our souls unite
so everyone can be free

one world, one dream, one universe
one dream of peace, of unity
one hope, one love, one family
one wish for all humanity

One World
Notes
"One World", Roberta's new single, was originally written and performed for the United Nations' 50th Anniversary - it quickly became an official theme of the UN50. Performed for the delegates in '94 and '95, the song was also introduced as a world peace theme in Japan at the Minon World Peace conventions. "One World" is currently being sung in five countries and has been performed by countless students in schools in the United States, chosen by the students to be their graduation theme. "One World" welcomed Rosa Parks to San Francisco in 1995, as well as the city's celebration finale at Union Square. In 1998, Roberta was invited to sing "One World" at The People's Assembly meeting with 130 representatives from around the world.

She also performed for benefits for Nicaragua, the rally for the Chinese people of Indonesia, members of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, and was invited to perform at the international world peace conference Hague Appeal for Peace '99 in The Netherlands.

Walkin' The Line
walkin' the line between heaven & hell
sometimes i'm up but i just can't tell
the smiles & the frowns
the ups & the downs
and i can't tell the time
except by the pain
i can't tell what's right except by my wrongs
and it's drivin' me insane

we're all in denial of a reason to be
bein' so damn blind that we just can't see
walkin' the line between heaven & hell
sometimes i'm up but i just can't tell
and i can't tell the time
except by the pain
i can't tell what's right except by my wrongs

and the river of life rushes on past my feet
as i walk all alone on down the street
standing on the banks feelin' no shame
so little love, so much to gain

but give me one more moment
when all that's at stake is subject to change
and again & again i fall into the game with you..
oh

can't tell the time except by the pain
can't tell what's right except by my wrongs
and the river of life rushes on past my feet
as i walk all alone on down the street
standing on the banks feelin' no shame
so little love, so much to gain

and the river of life rushes on past my feet
as i walk all alone on down the street
standing on the banks feelin' no shame

2. Key West Boogie Play
Key West Boogie
well I was walkin' on duvall street
in key west town where the oceans meet
i was mindin' my own affair till i looked up
and caught his stare
oh my oh my oh my oh my
oh my oh my oh my oh my
i didn't need no second try
to read behind those sweet brown eyes
singin' my oh, singin' my oh

a couple of days had passed and gone
i thought he had moved along
to my surprise he gave out a yell
shook me twice and rang my bell
oh my oh my oh my oh my
oh my oh my oh my oh my
when i heard that beautiful sound
thought i'd stick around this town
singin' my oh, singin' my oh

he asked me to the fifth floor
when i knocked he threw open the door
he was naked & he was fine
kissed me twice & blew my mind
oh my oh my oh my oh my
oh my oh my oh my oh my
i didn't need no second try
to read behind those sweet brown eyes
singin' my oh, singin' my oh

sweet ole rhythm on the marching drum
he took me to the setting sun
before i know he got me on the sand
singin' "your wish is my command"
oh my oh my oh my oh my
oh my oh my oh my oh my
when i heard him giving that sign
chills all up & down my spine
singin' my oh, singin' my oh

so if you're ever on duvall street
you'll hear a sound that's honey sweet
they'll get you before you can tell
shake you twice & ring your bell
oh my oh my oh my oh my
oh my oh my oh my oh my
when i heard that second sign
chills all up & down my spine
singin' my oh, singin' my oh

when i heard him giving that sign
thought i'd stick around this town
singin' my oh, singin' my oh

Where Did The World Go
where did the world go
when i arrived
didn't it know what i came here for
where did the world go
when i arrived
when it knew what i came here for

i opened my eyes and to my surprise
the world was not the way i planned

where did the world go
when i arrived
didn't it know what i came here for
i came here for

why does love elude me
world, where did it go
i turned around looking for direction
i faced east, i faced north
i faced up & down, and as i turned & looked
the world went away

i opened my eyes and to my surprise
the world was not the way i'd planned

where did the world go
when i arrived
didn't it know what i came here for
i came here for love

4. Chinese Samba Play
Chinese Samba
down on old balboa is a little marketplace
you can see the people come and go
you can watch 'em face to face
it's open 'till eleven
lately i've been there at one
and if you know the chinese samba
you can sing along

the man behind the counter
will call you pretty names
old enough to be your father
he ain't playin' any games, he said,
"mama, you run the register 'cause
i had too much rum"
so i add up all the numbers and we

sing our little song, yeah

we switched into the reggae
tho' the club was dark & tense
"suits" sat in the corner makin' eyes
at every chance
and we're all wigged out
the taco bells were closed
so i came back to the marketplace
to hang out and show off

jimmy, what's the time you know
i got to go, the girl's a wreck
she's got to clean her act and turn the
samba, the chinese samba

down on old balboa....

if you know the chinese samba
you can sing along

5. Catch A Falling Angel Play
Catch A Falling Angel
i searched heaven & earth
looking for a love divine
out of the crowd i saw a flickering light
i had to look twice you shined so bright
well i never believed in a love made in heaven
but your love was heaven sent
your heart is so pure so fragile and sweet
i had to look twice for fear we might meet
and fly away..

catch a falling angel
wipe away the tears you've been crying
catch a falling angel
an angel of your own
catch a falling angel
you'll have a love to always treasure
cause a falling angel is an angel you can love
forever..

i had my share of broken dreams
and you appeared with broken wings
now with you by my side i can do anything
and i'm showered, overpowered from heaven above
my heart is an altar to worship your love

catch a falling angel
wipe away the tears you've been crying
catch a falling angel
an angel of your own
catch a falling angel
you'll have a love to always treasure
cause a falling angel is an angel you can love
forever....forever....

6. Love Is Knockin' Play
Love Is Knockin'
hey, boy, i tried to understand
you say love is a journey
not a one night stand
but since my heart was broken & blue
i still believed one was better than two

and every time i start to run away
you're stealin' back my heart
with every word you say
if actions speak louder than words you know
where your heart is calling me i will go

love is knockin', knockin' down my door
i tried runnin' but i just can't run anymore
it chases me all the way back to you

your love is knockin'

you say you're lost, you're lost & all alone
and trapped within yourself a heart without a home
you know i'm scared, i'm scared enough to cry
'cause i know i could love you 'till the day i die

and if your past is haunting you
i know somethin' we can do
somethin' we can do

love is knockin', knockin' down my door
i tried runnin', but i just can't run anymore
love is knockin', knockin' down my door
i tried hidin', but it doesn't work anymore
it chases me all the way back to you

your love is knockin'
love is knockin' on my door now
knock knock knockin'
love is knockin' on your door now
knock knock knockin'
love is knockin' on my door now
knock knock knockin'
love is knockin' on your door now

just put me on that night flight baby
cause love is always where you are

i got friends on the telephone
i got places i could be
i got jet set connections, responsibilities
but i'm on the night flight baby
tonight we're shootin' stars, stars, stars, yeah
just put me on the night flight baby
cause love is always where you are

on the night flight baby
tonight we're seein' stars, stars, yeah
just put me on that night flight baby
cause love is always where you are

ecstasy is just a dream away
when i hear you callin' out my name
are you my fortune, are you my fate
your love keeps knockin' boy
what can i say, i love you
what can i say now...ow...oooh...yeah

just close your eyes and dream a while

Wishing On The Moon
had a lot of dreams that never came true
took a lot of pictures some of them with you
told a lot of lies when it was hard to tell the truth
now i'm startin' over, got to make up for my youth

that's why i'm wishing
i'm wishing on the moon
that's why i'm wishing
i'm wishing on the moon

now the man in the moon's got a lot to say
he says let your light shine baby each and every day
don't keep it hidden and don't look away
got to believe in something, you're gonna be o.k.

that's why i'm wishing
i'm wishing on the moon
that's why, that's why i'm wishing
i'm wishing on the moon

some say we're headed for destruction and despair
but you know thinking that way will get us nowhere
gonna try it once more, gonna give it my best
i'm going out there, comon', give me the test

i'm wishing, i'm wishing on the moon
that's why, that's why i'm wishing
i'm wishing on the moon
i'm wishing, i'm wishing on the moon
that's why, that's why i'm wishing
i'm wishing on the moon

now the man in the moon, he's got a lot to say
he came to see me last night through my skylight
he told me to write down this song for you
he said he'd like to hear from you too
he said just go on outside anytime and just howl at that moon
he said just go on outside and just howl at that moon oooh...ooh...ooh

9. Desperate Soul Play
Desperate Soul
i'm turning back the tide
i'm tearing down the walls
i'm pulling out the stops
the stops that make me fall
i'm chasing down my dreams
the dreams i've held so long
i'm searching for the truth
a reason to go on

and i've finally reached the threshhold of my pain
i can't go on pretending everything's the same

i'm giving up the ghosts
the past that had me blind
i'm calling out for peace
that once escaped my mind
it's getting to the point
something's gotta give
i'm holding on for life
the life i want to live

you look around i can't be found
you won't see me anymore
call my name i'm not the same
i'm not who i was before

so many tears, so many tears
so many fears and i've got to go
i've got to know
i'm a desperate soul
desperate soul

these things i can't explain
the rolling of the dice
and nothing is for sure
this mystery of life
my head's up in the clouds
i'm staring at the moon
i'm reaching for the stars
don't call me back too soon

and i'd like to think i'll find my way back home
but until that day i'm out here on my own

so many tears, so many tears
so many fears and i've got to go
i've got to know
i'm a desperate soul

listen people, people of the earth
listen people, people of the earth
can't you hear them cryin'
cryin' as they fall
can't you hear them cryin'

if a tree falls in the forest
and no one's there to hear it
does it make a sound
and if your heart was beating
and you knew that it would end
would you make a sound
would you be around

listen people, people of the earth
listen listen people, people of the earth
don't you know they're burning
they're burning to the ground
can't you see them burnin'
once lost they're never found

if you thought that it would end
would you do anything then, would you
if you thought that it would end
would you try to change things then
would you

what we take
someday we'll have to give back
what we take

11. 3,000 Choices Play
3,000 Choices
in this world of modern living
one side eats & the other's begging
some try to sleep, the other's dreading
wakin' up in the mornin'
they're all your ancestors, your children
they're all parts of you
crying to be heard

sooner or later you'll stand in their shoes
everyone everywhere stands in their shoes
even the barefoot ones
one long cry across the land
it's not for shelter, it's not for food
it's the cry of spirits aching to know
3,000 choices we have

3,000 choices i give to you
in a single moment
so many choices what will you do
where will you go what will you know
oh....oh......

in this world of modern living
the future belongs to imagination
the stage is set, the past is last night's dream
and we don't know the ending
the best we can do is learn to choose wisely

sooner or later you'll stand in their shoes
everyone everywhere stands in their shoes
even the barefoot ones
one long cry across the land
it's not for shelter, it's not for food
it's the cry of spirits aching to know
3,000 choices we have

3,000 choices i give to you
in a single moment
so many choices what will you do
where will you go who will you know
oh...... oh......oh......
